Make eating healthy and getting active a family affair this year.
Registration is now open for Kids N Fitness, a free, healthy lifestyle program for children ages 8 to 16 and their parents or guardians. Led by staff and volunteers of Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well, the program consists of seven weekly, 90-minute sessions for the entire family. Sessions include physical activity, goal setting, a nutrition lesson, support session for parents, healthy snack and healthy take-home incentive.
Kids N Fitness was developed by a team of doctors and health professionals with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The purpose of the program is to teach children and their parents or guardians healthy habits through nutrition and physical activity. The program also provides the motivation families need to change their behaviors in a fun and safe environment.
Launched at Tanner in August 2015, the program’s objective is to provide families and children an opportunity to significantly change the path of their health through nutrition and physical activity. The course gives children the opportunity to learn about nutrition and develop the tools to make healthy choices as they get older. Adopting a healthier lifestyle can lead to a long, healthy life free from chronic health conditions like diabetes, obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure.
The next Kids N Fitness series will run Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for seven weeks, from Jan. 31 to March 14. The class will be held in Classroom 2 at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. Classes are offered throughout the year.
