Meteorologists are expecting some breaks in cloud coverage this afternoon, which could increase chances for severe weather across west Georgia.
Keith Stellman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said that the storms have shifted toward the east, and should be approaching Carrollton at 3 or 4 p.m.
There will be another round of showers moving through, closer to sunset.
“The threat of severe thunderstorms or tornados will be increased if we see some breaks in the cloud coverage because that would raise the temperatures a bit and cause some updrafts,” said Stellman.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service are calling for another round of severe weather early Wednesday morning.
“We are expecting the risk for tornadoes to be as significant as Monday, or possibly more,” said Jason Deese, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Based on our models, the main threat with this system is going to be tornados, whereas the main threat with the previous system [Monday] was mostly damaging winds and hail.”
Deese said residents should expect to see multiple rounds of severe weather beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m. for west Georgia. Additional waves of severe weather are expected to move in around 2:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.
Deese noted the rare nature of seeing such a significant weather event less than 48 hours after Monday’s EF1 tornado.
“Wednesday will be what we consider ‘moderate-risk’ for tornadic activity, and we usually only get one or two moderate-risk days per years—not two instances within three days,” said Deese. “It’s very uncommon to see this much of a chance for tornadoes.”
Carroll County Emergency Management Association Director Tim Padgett urged residents to prepare for the potential of severe weather.
“We could see damaging winds and hail, or even some tornados, so we are urging everyone to be prepared and be careful,” said Padgett.
