Central High School Students Accepted into Governor’s Honors Program

Central High School students Ethan Hembree and Abigail Sadler have been accept into the 2017 Governor’s Honors Program. Ethan was nominated by his English teacher, Ms. Stephanie Herring, in the area of Communicative Arts.

After submitting writing samples, completing an exam, and interviewing on both the local and state levels, Ethan was asked to participate in the summer program. Abigail Sadler was nominated in the area of Visual Arts by her art teacher, Ms. Cynthia Landon. She submitted a variety of art pieces, completed an art history exam, and interviewed on the local and state level.

Judges reviewed her entire visual art portfolio before accepting her into the program. Abigail is the first Visual Arts Governor’s Honors Program participant from Central High School in more than 10 years.

The Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students. The program offers in-depth instruction designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

Approximately 3,000 students are nominated for GHP with 650 invited to participate.
