38 Special and Community Day Event planned to benefit Carroll County Humane Society

With a strong focus on the company’s continued commitment to sustainability, Southwire will host its annual Community Day on Saturday, October 7. Headlining the entertainment for the annual event will be American rock band, 38 Special.

“As we planned this year’s event, we really wanted to expand its variety, and we thought… what better way to do that than to integrate Southwire’s five tenets of sustainability into our schedule?” said Ashley Bush, Southwire’s director of media and community relations. “We looked at how we could best share our commitment to Growing Green, Living Well, Giving Back, Doing Right and Building Worth in a way that is engaging and fun for the community. So, you will see that activities during Community Day will highlight fitness, environmental stewardship, manufacturing, arts and crafts, automotive and music, and there’s even a special treat for animal lovers.”

Southwire’s annual event will kick off with the Community Day 5K Run, a certified Peachtree qualifier. Pre-registration is available for $15 through Monday, September 25, and registration will remain open for $20 after September 25. Children ages 10 and under may register free of charge. The race will begin and end at Southwire’s corporate headquarters (One Southwire Drive – Carrollton, Ga.) and medals will be awarded by age group. All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Carroll County Humane Society, a community non-profit organization helping to build a better community for people and animals alike. To register, visit www.southwire.com/communityday2017.

Following the race, Southwire will host its Fall E-Recycling Event in partnership with Keep Carroll Beautiful. Collection will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Southwire Corporate Parking Lot and will last until 1:00 p.m. There is no cost to donate e-waste at this event.

At 2:00 p.m., Community Day will continue in downtown Carrollton (306 Bradley St.) with Southwire’s third-annual Charity Cruise-In. All types of vehicles – vintage, classic or new – are welcome to register by visiting www.southwire.com/charitycruisein.

In addition to the vehicle showcase, the Charity Cruise-In will feature the opportunity to meet Von Hot Rod, considered one of the top-tier international professionals of pinstriping. Von Hot Rod and his work have been featured at many premier automotive shows, as well as on ESPN-2. Top Ten People’s Choice Awards will be presented, and live music will be performed by the John Pagano Band. The cruise-in will also offer a shuttle for Southwire plant tours.

Registration for the cruise-in is free; however, all donations collected throughout the event will benefit the Carroll County Humane Society (CCHS). Cruise-in participants are encouraged to bring pet food or supplies in lieu of an entry fee.

“We are very honored and excited to be part of this year’s Community Day. We depend on the support of the community, and having Southwire provide us with this crucial showcase is a wonderful way to get the word out about the important work we do for the animals of Carroll County and the people who love them,” said Teresa Leslie, president of CCHS. “Southwire has, for as long as I can remember, set an example for other businesses in the area of how to be a vital and involved part of the community.”

To rally support for CCHS, Southwire will also host a family fun section in the picnic area behind The Amp at Adamson Square from 2:00 PM until the concert begins at 6:00 PM. This area will include life-sized art projects, games, a photo booth and more. From 2:00 until 4:00 PM, CCHS will host on-site pet adoptions. The first ten pet adoptions will be free of charge.

“We wanted to add a little competition to the day, so, in the family fun section, we will host a Puppy vs. Kitten contest to bring more awareness to our support of CCHS. Every donation [monetary or in-kind] made throughout the day can be designated to either puppies or kittens,” said Kristian Whittington, Southwire’s manager of employee engagement and communication and Project GIFT coordinator. “At the end of the event, the animal with the most donations will be deemed our winner. It’s all in good fun to raise as much support as we can for CCHS!”

At 6:00 p.m., Community Day will culminate near The Amp at Adamson Square with a concert headlined by gold and platinum recording artist, 38 Special. Due to the anticipated crowd size, the main stage for the concert will be set up on Bradley Street, adjacent to The Amp. Opening for 38 Special will be Shyanne, a tribute band that highlights the rock hits of the 80s.

“The magic’s still there. It’s an emotional high for us to keep ‘bringing it’ after all these years, and we go out each night with the bold determination to stay honest with the music that has continued to keep us on the road,” said Don Barnes, guitarist and vocalist for 38 Special. “This will be our first concert in the Atlanta area this year, and we are expecting a record turnout from the west Georgia community!”
