A Look Inside Harvey’s House of Books

Harveys

Recently I was invited to check out a neat little bookstore in Whitesburg operated by Friends of the Whitesburg Public Library. The building is an inviting little place. Almost seemed like I was walking into a train car. I was greeted by several wonderful people with food! Now that makes you want to stay all day and be cozy reading a book. Soon I found out that in February of 2011 Harvey’s House of Books opened this location off 1140 Main Street in Whitesburg. Since then the collection has grown to more than 20,000 books! Impressive! The name of the book store is in memory of the contributions made to the Whitesburg Public Library and the book store by Whitesburg resident Harvey Toub. He was a member of the Friends of the Library who gave so much of his time and energy to the community. Even through his health challenges he continued to give and support. Several of the materials used to put together the book store were donated from Carroll EMC and Emory at Oxford University. The store is actually in a renovated mobile classroom provided by the Carroll County Board of Education and is also located on land owned by the City of Whitesburg. Harvey’s offers amazing pricing for most paperbacks at 50 cents and $2+ for hardbacks. The book store does also feature new arrivals at the front of the store along with several magazines, movies, and music. Thirty volunteers keep the store going! Visit them Mondays 10am-2pm, Tuesdays-Thursdays from 10am – 6pm, Fridays 10am to noon and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. I personally love Frugal Fridays because books are half price!
