Central High School 9th Grader Wins Top Honors in Essay Contest

Central High School 9th grade student, Kendra Ball, took top honors in the Carrollton Optimist Essay Contest earning a first-place
award and scholarship. Kendra prepared an essay for the topic “Reaching your Dreams by Choosing Optimism.”

The essay contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective. In addition to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship. Kendra’s essay will advance to the district contest where she competes for a $2,500 college scholarship. The district scholarship is funded by the Optimist International Foundations.
